Rain

We finally got rain. It’s been far too long since we last saw it. If I hadn’t been at work I would have gone out and walked in it, I think. After weeks of temperatures in the high 90’s to lower 100’s the feel of rain would have been delicious. The heat and stuffiness in the air, not to mention the smoke, have been suffocating, even when there’s been a wind. The best I could hope for, though, was to smell a hint of rain in the air-conditioning.

It’s hard to believe there was a time this year when I was tired of seeing rain.

I’ve heard Colorado got rain, too. With a little luck most of the west is getting a dowsing. With all the fires we need all the help we can get. It’s been a hard year, and I don’t know how fire crews even get to everything.

We have company from out of town, and yesterday they were supposed to go sightseeing. It’s the typical luck we have with visitors–perfect weather until someone shows up to be shown around and then it takes a turn for the worse. I’m writing this as if it were tomorrow, when this will post, but at the moment I don’t know if they changed their plans, or if they were already out in it when it came. I wouldn’t be surprised if they welcomed it and kept going.

I would have if I were with them.

It was too wet to stay in, and not too cold to play, but I sat and I worked all that long, warm, wet day.
