Though not the only landlocked country in the region, Styrlac seems to carry an out-sized grudge against the world over it. Since King Olfoed Firemane unified the Forty Counties over three hundred years ago the country has been in a state of constant hostility with its neighbors. Onestra and Faltris have been its primary targets as a means of obtaining access to the sea, but it hasn’t given up entirely on Chresis and Solodimir as a means of gaining enough power to gain the upperhand with its northern and eastern neighbors.
The country enjoys significant wealth in resources, especially the Iffendtal forest, covering over half the land. Their weakness is a lack of agricultural land, further exacerbated by the continual wartime footing. King Fherel the Brute, in an attempt to remedy this situation, has lowered conscription rates on his own people so that they may engage in agriculture, while maintaining his army by hiring mercenaries. He has also begun easing tensions with Faltris of late.
