One of the more interesting political mysteries in the Westsea Plains region is why Faltris refuses to expand its border to the south, doubling its size and tripling its forest resources. Yet for centuries House Lentaarin, rulers of Faltris, has refused to do so–or allow anyone else to do so–with an almost religious fervor. The Edelmaard, including all settlements, is under their protection, while extracting essentially no return for that protection.
Faltris exists through trade, especially with those countries dedicated to resisting any further expansion by the Ornestran Empire. Their primary ally and trading partner is Virstachreon, their flanking positions with Ornestra providing considerable protection. They also enjoy open trade with Neflan and Tzerimytris, but are on less favorable terms with Tremandi, who they suspect as behind the at least some of the raids on the Faltrian coastline.
Queen Diathena, Seventh of Adichiris, is the current ruler of Faltris, and has begun a campaign to bolster her country’s defenses against Ornestra, Tremandi and Styrlac. Pleased with King Fherel’s overtures of late, she has opened trade with her western neighbor to gain access to their more abundant lumber, which in turn will allow her to expand her navy to better protect the coastline and their trade convoys throughout the Sea of Casselome–and further check Ornestran expansion.
