The tribes that call the Ankheromai Desert home are something of a mystery. The desert is not that large or extensive, but they choose to live their lives transiting the unforgiving sands eastward and westward in an effort to trade in the rich spices and other luxuries of the eastern interior that even the Tremandii merchant vessels cannot reach.
The desert is also not large enough to keep the tribes from fighting amongst themselves. While they do not go out of their way to attack each other, caravans that encounter one another in the deeper parts of the desert are likely to clash. Only the caravanserai are considered safe havens, as the rulers of the facilities are bound by tradition to provide hospitality to all, and therefore all under their protection must also co-exist peacefully. Offending one’s host is risky, tantamount to suicide.
